according to white material pair galcher lustwerk and alvin aronson, their first collaborative album under the studio ost alias contains a mix of breezy electro, aquatic dub, high speed jit, and shimmering atmospherics. while clearly tongue-in-cheek, it s a fairly accurate description. certainly, there s a fluidity, moodiness and palpable sense of atmosphere at the heart of scenes, which casually drifts between hard-edged club workouts, hazy post-club fare and dreamy, horizontal experiments. it was apparently recorded over a three-year period, during jam sessions at various new york studios. its the spontaneous aspect of its creation that has the biggest effect, and makes the whole thing feel like fleeting snapshots of moments in time.

severence is an electronic sound artist who lives in spain. mensch 003 experiments with various forms of chaotic sound & signal generation to create dense chaotic sound fields and other more relaxed ambient soundscapes. all tracks were recorded live in one take using a eurorack modular synth, a mixing desk and various effects pedals (no overdubs or post processing in the computer).

this polyrhythmic swirl of drum machine, tape echo and locked grooves is the product of two post-1982 jam sessions between an anonymous dj and drum machine operator duo. the dj liked the way a record happened to skip. more were made to do so. the drum machine operator had had a bit too much, but he knew that 100 divided by 3 was 33 - and he was feeling the toms that night. file under: funky experimental.

optimos prolific dj/producer/label boss jd twitch aka keith mcivor has curated a compilation of early 80s synth, industrial and cold wave classics and undiscovered gems in collaboration with the vinyl factory, following the cease & desist diy! (cult classics from the post-punk era 1978-82) compilation on his own optimo music label, and youth stand up!, a collaborative recording project featuring young musicians from glasgow, ghana and belize on his autonomous africa imprint.

for this new “edits” issue, we are introducing rutes from london, a great digger and dj we met in 2014 at camp cosmic (sweden). he proposed us a bunch of really great cuts, and we’ve chosen those five to make a very special record. from exotic esoteric dance, to sleazy new wave, on to brutal minimal synth weapon, dubby horny post punk, climaxing on the most lovely musical nugget. we love this record so much, hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
